Our Story
Twenty years ago, in the spring of 1992, a friend of my family hired me to work for his hardwood flooring company in Colorado Springs. From 1992 to 1999, I worked my way from Apprentice (learning the trade) to Journeyman (independent craftsman) in both their Residential and Gymnasium Sand/Finish Divisions. The work helped me pay my way through college at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In 1999, my best friend, Joni, and I were married and I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double degree in Political Science and Economics. At the end of the year, I made the decision to leave that small company and move to a larger one.
At Arlun, Inc, I partnered with an old friend to start a hybrid crew: a two-person team that could install, sand, and finish custom residential projects from concept to completion. In 2000, our marriage was blessed with the birth of our son, Mark. We bought our first home in Colorado Springs and began to grow our family. In 2003, after the birth of our daughter, Rebecca, I accepted a promotion to manage Arlun’s Hardwood Flooring Division in Denver.
That first year, I commuted to Denver and focused on building the quality and integrity of the department. We started with one employee and one builder. In three years, the department had grown to ten subcontractors, four builders, and a consistent doubling of sales each year. We won numerous accolades, including a Floor of the Year Award and displayed a floor in Denver’s Parade of Homes. Our family chose to relocate to a great town: Parker, Colorado.
Two new beginnings occurred in 2006. The first was the incorporation of Artistic Floors by Design, Inc. in May and the second was the birth of Jay, our third child, in November. Over the past six years, I have been privileged to work all along the I-25 corridor and in the Rocky Mountains. In addition to residential work, our project portfolio includes commercial work in locations including 14th & Walnut Streets downtown (next to Coors Field), The Four Seasons Residences, and the Landmark in the Denver Tech Center. As we have added to our clientele, we also have added to our family: Joseph was born in 2008.
For me, the goal of family and work are the same: to produce the best quality product!
I take pride in accomplishing a uniquely beautiful project that meets the standards and guidelines of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) for each of my clients. As a member of the NWFA’s Board of Directors, I wholeheartedly embrace their Code of Ethics and maintain my Certified Professional status (Advanced Installation, Sanding, and Finishing Technique) so that I remain up-to-date on technical issues. Working from concept to completion allows me to demonstrate and explain the characteristics of various products to ensure that homeowners will take great satisfaction in their wood floor.
